I generally do well with animals. They tend to like me and want to cuddle. Which I am A-OK with. However, this most recent doggo had an impish streak to mirror my own.
I had to remove all privileges from this young man, because he kept committing crimes. What crimes you ask? Well, first he ate some of my underthings, then threw up on the bed. Then he stole my washcloth, then my razor, and then my scrunchie. Oh, and then he peed on the bed. My friend and writing companion, Olivia, (who you’ll meet shortly,) renamed him the Crime Bagel and now that is his name.
Thankfully, our tenure together did not end with crimes. Fare thee well, Crime Bagel. I shall miss you and your snuggles, but not the crimes you committed against my unmentionables.
What I’m reading:
Remember all those books I mentioned last week? Yup. Still all of those. Of course I didn’t finish them by the time I left my dog sitting gig. I am either really confident about my reading speed or overly optimistic. Or both. Gideon the Ninth is a priority since book club is next week!
Great for: my reading goals for the year
Bad for: keeping plots and characters straight
What I’m writing:
Generally aggrieved emails to students. The semester ends next week, and the shenanigans have exponentially increased. I am tired, friends. So tired. Yes, you need to submit your in class work for it to be counted. Yes, you will be docked points if you turn in your paper late. Yes, I need documentation that you’ve got a concussion so I can push your due dates. *deep sigh*
Great for: ???
Bad for: my novel, but even she wants nothing to do with this
What I’m listening to:
I’m not sure what it is with me suddenly remembering John Mayer songs exist, because this happened last year, too. But, I got “Your Body is a Wonderland” stuck in my head, so obviously I had to listen to it on repeat. I’m expecting it to show up in my Spotify Wrapped in 8 months.
Great for: 2002
Bad for: me pretending I have cool musical taste
No New Books™️ Challenge:
Still holding strong!! But next week the wheels are going to fall off. You’ll have to read about it then. I am already salivating.
Streak to Beat: 50 days (January 1st - February 19th)
Last streak: 15 days (February 27th-March 12th)
Current streak: 42 days (March 16th-present)
Mug Moment of the Week:
A double whammy for you this week! Last Saturday, my writing group had an in person outing. Both Emilie and Olivia live around Boston, so I’m the outlier. We meet online every other week, where Google Meet harasses us with its countdown function.
So what did we do at this outing that relates to mugs? We went to tea, of course! Sweet Marie’s Tea Cottage is just that - a tea cottage. It is the definition of cottage core. It’s run by women and opened during the pandemic, and so I feel a personal responsibility to keep them afloat. I’ve been 8 times. The owner and I are now on a first name basis.
We realized during the course of tea that we didn’t have a picture of all of us together, so we decided to remedy that. We joked that I look like a mother hen taking her two daughters out to tea.
After tea, we wandered around Wickford Junction, where said cottage is located. And because I’ve been good and haven’t bought any books, I bought a few mugs. That is 100% how that logic works, right? Right. Anyways, behold, one of the new mugs:
It is a handmade Dalmatian mug!!!! I should have mentioned in the post earlier this week, but I adore Dalmatians. You can’t convince me otherwise - it was imprinted on me at such a young age that it’s humanly impossible. I will hear no arguments otherwise. They are perfect, and one day I will have my own spotted pal.
That’s all for now, folks! A quick one for you. Have a great weekend and come back next week for my next Artist Interview (I promise, I’m finishing up the transcript as we speak.)
I'm right there with you, writing aggrevied emails to my student's parents.
