Last weekend, I went to a friend’s baby shower. (Hi Adrienne!) And it was lovely and purple and right on the water. All things good and sweet for a new baby girl.
What I most appreciated was I got a goodie bag! I cannot tell you the last time I got one of those. And I have to say, we gotta bring those back. Bring back goodie bags. Look at all the fun stuff here!!!
Moral of the story: I will still attend your fancy event. But I would ~love~ a goodie bag, too. An adult participation trophy, if you will. I will bring you a present, but also please give me one please and thank you.
Actually, I lied. I do remember the last time I got a goodie bag and it was at a writing conference in May. One of the lecturers handed out goodie bags as part of her presentation and it was truly delightful and the highlight of my day. Everyone in the room was ecstatic which just proves my point that adults need goodie bags, too.
Ahead, a roundup of what’s gotten me through the past two weeks.
What I’m reading:
I didn’t think that buying a bunch of shorter French books was the way I was going to get caught up on my reading goals, but here we are. It’s short (under ~150 pages), and has pictures. The artwork looks beautiful, what isn’t there to love?
Great for: my French proficiency, my French book reading goal
Bad for: my book buying challenge, my wallet
What I’m writing:
Anything I’m accomplishing in the Anti-Perfectionist Writing Party. Writer and Freelancer Amber Petty has created a container to just write, and sometimes we (read: me) need that kick in the pants to get our act together. It’s Saturday afternoons, and it’s nice knowing that during these 3 hours I will get writing done. It’s only for a few weeks, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to carry this momentum through the fall.
Great for: my productivity
Bad for: planning purposes
What I’m listening to:
My friend Heather1 posted this song on her Instagram Stories earlier this week, and she has good music taste. I was influenced and I regret nothing. When I peeped a listen at this song from LAUREL’s new album, I was hooked. Also, lambs!!!
Great for: new music
Bad for: listening on work calls
No New Books™️ Challenge:
I might just have to put a moratorium on this challenge until September,2 because I look like a fool when I keep breaking my streak after 2 weeks. If nothing else, I’m at least being honest about my continued idiocy and adventures in book buying.
I have no excuse here. The book was pretty and I wanted it. (aka Le Ciel Ouvert above.)

Streak to Beat: 50 days (January 1st - February 19th)
Last streak: 12 days (June 28th - July 8th)
Current streak: 2 days (July 10th-Present)
Mug Moment of the Week:
This is a Rifle Paper Co. mug I bought at Anthropologie that I learned today was supposed to be hand-washed after I have 100% put this in the dishwasher before. Whoops.
I like the patterns Rifle Paper Co has, and try to get their travel themed desk calendars every year.3 There’s lots of travel destinations on here, and it probably would have made more sense if I had taken a video showing all of the different sketches, but alas, you will just have to settle for views of New York City and Paris. Tea is some of the Wakeup herbal tea I got at Harrods when I went to England back in the Spring. #zesty.
Who I met through my friend Hannah. I’m very good at friends.
All will be revealed in due time.
Except this year because they DIDN’T HAVE ONE.
The last time I received a goodie bag it was filled with a load of rubbish. I don't mean literal rubbish as in trash, but half a ton of stuff that someone looked at and thought: "What can we do with all this tat? I know, let's shove it into a bag and call it a 'goodie bag'". So from my point of view it was more of a baddie bag, if there is such a thing. 😁
I'm throwing a friend's bridal shower and I didn't make goody bags and now I think I should...can I pull together goody bags in two days?!?
